Poul Cadovius Model 513 Coffee Table in Chequerboard Teak, 1960s by France and Son
This beautiful chequerboard table was designed by Poul Cadovius for France and Son in 1969. Originally launched as companion tables to the Governor Suite Sofa and chairs, it is one of the larger of four models of identical design and varying widths and lengths.
Cadovius was a leading light in Danish Design, reaching international recognition for his Royal System modular shelving systems, originally designed in 1948. In 1967, his company CADO bought France & Son, Danish importer/manufacturer that had built a reputation for design excellence and pioneering quality mass manufacturing techniques. France and Son's brand continued for a few more years after the sale and this table was one of the later designs with the France & Son makers mark.
The top consists of cubes of teak veneer in parquetry placement and bordered around the edges. The unusual 90 degree angular leg frames complete the geometric style of this beautiful table. As featured in the Danish design Museum furnitureindex, this table is among one of the classics of Danish modern design.
