1960's Portmeirion Magic City coffee set plus three storage jars designed by Susan William-Ellis for Portmeirion Potteries Ltd.
With its unusual, sculptural handles and its otherworldly pattern of domed buildings in rich colourways, the name of this Mid Century set couldn't be more apt. This set comprises a tall coffee pot, six tall cups and saucers, six small cups and saucers, a tall milk jug and sugar bowl plus three canisters in large, medium and small. Designed by the multi-talented Susan Williams-Ellis, one of Britain's most important 20th century designers and businesswomen.
This striking set in excellent condition would be an ideal vintage gift for a celebration or new home.

Details: Having studied under Graham Sutherland and Henry Moore at the Cheslsea School of Art, Susan Williams-Ellis was an artist and author who was also the daughter of Portmeirion's architect, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. Susan founded Portmeirion Pottery with her husband Euan in 1960 with the intention of supplying souvenirs for the village shop. Williams-Ellis led the company to commercial and design success throughout the 20th century.
Magic City is one of the designs from Williams-Ellis' Serif Series. The handles take inspiration from serif fonts. The pattern itself is inspired by Middle Eastern cities and is featured in the V&A archive
