Details: Originally designed in 1964, this magnificent highboard in teak is a fine example of the work of internationally acclaimed Danish designer Ib Kofod Larsen. Kofod Larsen led the design team at G Plan during the 1960s, introducing the Danish modern design principles of simplicity of form and function. This design formed part of the G Plan Danish Design Dining group and cost £65.00 in 1966.
It contains two cupboards with spacious storage. The right hand cupboard also includes a lined cutlery drawer and storage drawers. The left hand cupboard includes an adjustable shelf. The generous depth of this piece makes it perfect for a restaurant or large dining setting. The impressive handles are made from Rio rosewood. The curved underside of the frame adds an additional touch of finesse.
Notes accompanying the original design state: "One has only to see the truly fantastic storage capacity - space for 25 bottles, a removable drinks tray, a shelf for six sets of glasses, a fitted cutlery drawer, two linen drawers, and that's only the right-hand side! - to appreciate its practicality" (HW Furniture Archive, 2007).
The quality of the teak is evident in the fine grain pattern of the doors, making it a fine showpiece item.
A rare and high quality British made/Danish designed, Mid Century highboard of excellent quality.
