Details: This magnificent and luxurious chair was designed by Michaelis, an Anglo-French architect and inventor. Michaelis was a trained architect and structural engineer who worked with Ove Arup until branching out to form his own consultancy. He went on to become one of the early pioneers of solar construction projects for both residential and industrial use.
The original chair design was for a pine and canvas chair and this model was later commissioned for Moveis Corazza in Jatoba (Brazilian cherry) and black leather.
The chair has several unique design attributes. It is carefully engineered in construction, with no joints, only metal bolts fitting the six wooden frame sections that are angled to an exact fit. The frame is designed to fold and the leather seat is removable and can be stored away or transported with ease. The hammock style seat (or sling seat as it is commonly known) is panelled in soft, black leather. The headrest hangs from the top of the frame and adjusts for best fit.
The overarching nautical theme is evident in the frame design, sling seat and thick rope. If you are looking for a rare design style that is out of the ordinary and highly collectible then this chair will not fail to exceed expectation. These chairs are best suited to a large space.
A fabulous and rare example of unique and high quality Mid Century Modern, 20th Century design.
